What to Expect When Your Pet Returns Home
Your pet will be happy to see you after their stay at Southern Pawz. Following a few simple steps will help ease the transition back to home life.
Over-excitement may cause your pet to pant and act thirsty. They likely had plenty of water at the facility. Offer a few ice cubes until they settle down before giving a full bowl.
Hold off on feeding for at least three hours after returning home. Excitement combined with eating and drinking too quickly can lead to digestive upset or bloating. Limit food and water until they've settled.
Walk your dog or give yard access right away. Excitement may cause changes in urination or bowel movements outside their normal schedule.
After picking up your cat, keep them indoors for a few days before allowing outside access. They need time to re-adjust to being home, just as they adjusted to the facility.
Give your pet personalized attention — playtime, petting, or brushing helps them move through the excitement and settle down.
Some dogs spend their boarding stay running and socializing non-stop. These dogs often leave happy but exhausted and may sleep heavily for the first couple of days. This is normal.
Re-establish your normal home routine as quickly as possible. A predictable schedule helps your pet feel safe and secure.
